TEEN FITNESS CONCERNS
Personal trainers who take on the task of developing and implementing an excesise program to suit a teenager must take many factors into consideration. One of those factors are what will each individual teen expect to accomplish through a particular exercise program. There are many positive benefits to a teen engaging in a physical program, such as improved self confidence, sports performance and an overall healthy lifestyle. There can also be many negative results that may ultimately threaten a teens health and diminish all the positive benefits that could be accomplished through a properly designed exercise program. These negative results include, negative body image, over training, steroid and supplement abuse. It is important for a personal trainer to discuss and possibly educate any teen client on the positive and negative effects of perusing an exercise program.
It is important for a teen to feel that they are accomplishing something beneficial. A personal trainer can work with a teen client to develop and achieve attainable goals through a safe and effective exercise program. When a teen works to reach these goals and than finally attains their goals they will have a deeper sense of pride and overall self confidence.
Through a careful assessment a personal trainer can help a teenager achieve a greater level of overall or specific sports performance. This will ultimately help the teen bring their game to a higher level and in due course reap the physical and mental gain of excelling in something they love. By following the advice of trained professionals in the fitness and medical industry, a teen can build a foundation in which to stand on for a life time of optimal health.
A teens pursuit of optimal health can also be distorted by messages that are portrayed by the mass media. The media often reveals messages to teens on what a perfect body should look like. The problem with this is that most of the images portrayed in the media are often anatomically incorrect, air brushed to hide imperfections, and many of the role models that teens look up to lead very dangerous and unhealthy lifestyles. This obsession can lead teens to take on an exercise program for the sole purpose of looking like an unattainable representation of what the media deems as beautiful. Without proper guidance teens may also turn to Steroids, drugs, supplement abuse, overtraining, and eating disorders to fulfill their fixation of looking like a socially perfect icon. The effects of abusing exercise, drugs, and unhealthy eating habits can lead to many dangerous health hazards; such as liver damage, dehydration, physical injuries, and mental issues. Slowly these health concerns will start to weaken a teens progress in fitness and put a damper on their overall health.
Before any teen gets involved with an exercise program with a personal trainer it is very important for the personal trainer to understand or realize what the teens fitness and health intentions are. If a teen has goals and aspirations that will help them attain overall healthy and fulfilling goals, than a trainer must asses, analyze and design a program to assist the teen in reaching their goals. On the other hand if a teen wants to pursue an exercise program to attain unrealistic and narcissistic aspirations, then a trainer should guide and help the teen realize the potential hazards of pursuing such goals, and help influence them on the benefits of following a healthy life style.
